What to do if I am Receiving Duplicate Emails in Outlook?

If you are using Outlook for some time, sooner or later you will get duplicate emails. This is a common problem. Fortunately, the solution to this problem sometimes can be really easy.

In this post, we explain 4 most common reasons why your Outlook is receiving duplicate emails:

  1. PROBLEM: email rules create duplicates. SOLUTION: review all your Outlook rules to find the offending one. If unsure, disable all rules and enable one by one to filter the one you need.
  2. PROBLEM: email forwarding creates duplicates. SOLUTION: again, the problem lies in rules - the best course of action is to disable all rules and check if this helps to solve the problem. If it does, you have a bad rule in your Outlook.
  3. PROBLEM: an email account is added twice. SOLUTION: review all your email accounts to verify that they are added only once. And while you are reviewing your email accounts, skip to possible problem number 4:
  4. PROBLEM: your server settings are configured to leave emails that get downloaded from the server - therefore you are downloading emails again and again. SOLUTION: uncheck it on Account Settings > More Settings > Advanced > "Leave a copy of the messages on the server".

While most likely you get to solve the mystery of receiving duplicate emails, this does not help with the mess it leaves. In this case, we recommend using additional software such as Deduper for Outlook to make sure your inbox is again as it once were.
